UC Berkeley's Department of Anthropology is assembling a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach one or two undergraduate courses per semester in Biological Anthropology and Anthropological Archaeology, should an opening arise. The department is especially interested in candidates who can teach a laboratory analysis class satisfying its upper-division, geographic-area, or method course requirements, and also welcomes applicants with innovative approaches to any other field within these two areas that would supplement curriculum gaps. General duties beyond teaching may include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials, writing exams, and managing GSIs. A PhD (or equivalent international degree), or enrollment in a PhD-granting program at the time of application, is required; a PhD in Bioanthropology/Anthropology by the start date and prior teaching experience are preferred. Appointments range from 33% to 67% time, and the posting gives a reasonable full-time range of $70,977-$199,722. The pool opened February 11, 2026, the most recent review date was February 26, 2026, and applications are accepted until the final date of February 11, 2027; Fall and Spring appointments are usually reviewed in April/May and Summer appointments in October.
