For its 2027 annual conference, the College English Association invites proposals for papers and panels exploring the theme 'Gateways' and its significance in literature, criticism and pedagogy; papers on general topics are also welcomed. The conference covers a wide range of areas including literary studies, creative writing, rhetoric and composition, technical communication, linguistics and film, and the association further encourages proposals addressing the wider role of academics, such as student and instructor accountability and assessment, student advising, academic leadership in departments and programmes, and the place of the English department in the university. Members of the Conference on College Composition and Communication and graduate students are explicitly welcomed. New for 2027 are undergraduate roundtables. The 56th annual conference will be held at the Westin Hotel, St. Louis, Missouri, 1-3 April 2027, and the deadline for submissions is 1 November 2026.
