The Department of Sociology at Princeton University is seeking a Postdoctoral or more senior Research Associate to collaborate on the STEM Du Bois Data Visualization Project, funded by the National Science Foundation. The project develops curricular materials to teach scientific reasoning and data visualization across a range of STEM courses using the foundational work of the social scientist W.E.B. Du Bois, and will test those materials in courses at Princeton, Fisk University and the University of California at Merced, assessing curricular impact through quantitative analysis of course survey and administrative data. The associate will help co-develop, deploy and link course surveys to student administrative data, conduct computational analyses, author briefs, papers and code to disseminate results, and consult with relevant policy actors, while being encouraged to develop an independent research agenda and take part in departmental life. Required qualifications are a PhD in Sociology, Education, Sociology of Science or a related field, an ability to work in Stata, strong methodological and data analysis skills, and demonstrated independent and collaborative research; fluency in R or Python, prior research on race and racial disparities in the US, background expertise on Du Bois's scholarship and experience with team-based quantitative research are preferred. The posting states $65,000-$70,000 per year for the Postdoctoral Research Associate and $74,000-$80,000 per year for the ARS rank. This is a full-time, 12-month in-person academic position anticipated to start as early as September 2026; postdoctoral appointments run one year with the possibility of renewal pending performance and funding, while more senior ranks may be multi-year.
