§ I·Posting Excerpt

The Department of Philosophy at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university in Santa Clara, California, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointee teaches introductory and advanced undergraduate courses related to philosophy and law among the department's current offerings, is invited to help develop new law-related courses over time, and is expected to teach in the university's CORE curriculum, which may include Cultures & Ideas courses with a law-related theme. The primary teaching focus is philosophy and law as it engages conceptual, ontological, epistemological, normative or ethical, and political questions; the Philosophy Department is strictly an undergraduate program, and the selected candidate has a reduced teaching load of five courses in the first year of appointment. Tenure-track faculty at Santa Clara balance teaching, research and service, and are expected to develop a research program producing peer-reviewed publications, monographs and/or creative work. Applicants must either hold a PhD in philosophy or a related field with expertise in philosophy and law by the appointment start date, or a terminal degree in another field that includes training in philosophy and law, including but not limited to a JD, a postgraduate law degree (JSD, LLM, MSL), or a PhD in a humanities field other than philosophy; publications or strong promise of peer-reviewed publication and evidence of the ability to teach university-level philosophy and law courses are also required. The posted salary range is $86,284-$95,901, the start date is 1 September 2027, and this is an in-person position. Applicants submit a CV, graduate transcripts, three letters of recommendation or three references, sample syllabi, student evaluations of teaching, a personal statement, and at least one example of representative scholarship. The close date is 13 November 2026.
