§ I·Posting Excerpt

The Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning at UC Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified lecturers, and lecturers in lieu of GSIs, to teach courses in the department's BA and Master of Landscape Architecture programs should an opening arise. Teaching areas include, but are not limited to, graduate and undergraduate design and planning studios, digital and analog landscape representation, applied environmental science, plant identification and use, landscape construction, landscape grading and drainage, the history and theory of landscape architecture and environmental planning, and GIS. Beyond teaching, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials such as a syllabus, and using the campus's electronic resources for course management. Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree at the time of application and an advanced degree or three years of relevant professional experience by the start date, with a master's degree in landscape architecture or a related field preferred; a CV, a two-to-six page statement of interest, a portfolio, optional teaching evaluations, and three to five references are required. Screening is ongoing and the number of positions varies from semester to semester across fall, spring, and summer, and the department notes that the existence of the pool does not guarantee that a position is available. A minimum appointment is 11 percent for one semester, positions typically start at the beginning of a semester or summer session, and appointments may be renewable based on program need, funding, and lecturer performance. A reasonable estimate for lecturer positions is $70,997-$150,000. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire, as visa sponsorship is not available. The application window opened March 25, 2026, applications were first reviewed on April 8, 2026, and applications are accepted until March 24, 2027.
